Wayland’s ELVIS (Electronic Voting Implementation) Committee retooled its remote-voting push after three bills were sent to study. Chair Dave Bernstein told members Tuesday that H.2272, Wayland’s home-rule petition, along with Rep. Carmine Gentile’s H.2274 and Rep. Kate Gregoire’s H.3342, were all referred to study in the current session, though Sen. Michael Barrett’s statewide bill and a Senate pair from Sens. Jake Oliveira and Peter Durant remain alive. The committee’s next-session plan centers on a five-town pilot with the attorney general or secretary of state as monitor, and a parallel push, backed by an attorney general opinion, to open remote access to disabled voters under the ADA as North Andover and Carlisle already do. Town Moderator Miranda Jones said Select Board Chair Carol Martin has invited her to a Sept. 22 meeting to discuss reducing the town’s 100-voter quorum. The May 2026 Town Meeting drew about 600 of 10,000 registered voters with zero handset failures.
