School Committee

Wayland School Committee accepts $335,110 in grants and prepares $2 million feasibility study line. The five-member committee unanimously approved $33,110 as the district’s share of a joint MassCyberCenter cybersecurity grant with the town, $302,000 in year two PRISM grant funding for the new K-3 CKLA Caminos literacy curriculum, and a $2 million FY28 capital request for a school building project feasibility study required for Massachusetts School Building Authority acceptance. The committee also adopted revised Policy JKAA on physical restraint and time-out to comply with state regulations effective Aug. 17. Public comment ran nearly 45 minutes with more than a dozen residents, including a petition with over 450 signers presented by Daniel Hardy, opposing a Loker Elementary pilot that reduces fourth and fifth grade instrumental music from 75 to 45 minutes weekly. Chair Erin Gibbons will present remotely to the Select Board on Aug. 31 and will formally request an operational override for FY28 through FY30.
